There’s really no need for me to say it, but 2020 was a rough year, and we’ll all certainly need our strength for 2021. My hope for the new year is many small victories for humanity, the planet, and each one of us. We’ll just take every day as it comes, but we don’t have to take them on without some medicine for the soul, and Mary Jane’s Natural Apothecary has just the thing!

Peddling my bicycle to work the other morning, I ran straight into (metaphorically, don’t worry) the delivery guys who brought me a lovely gift from the folks at Mary Jane’s. It was a delightful surprise to start off the day, and once I got back home I was bursting to see what awaited me inside—as it turned out, I’ve been treated to some serious pampering. Along with a gorgeous sample of their Northern Lights 2.0 (which I’ll be reviewing next week), I received a grinder, a handmade incense tray with a box of rosemary sticks, some top quality hemp rolling papers, a jar of bath salts with soothing lavender, and—get excited—a bag of Oldy’s Wake & Bake, a single source Malawian coffee infused with the full range of cannabis’s active substances. The consumables are rich in aroma and potency, and the usables are beautifully made. Mary Jane’s Natural Apothecary’s impressively wide range of products, from quality CBD oil to comfortable cotton clothing, are all natural, handmade, and ethically sourced.

You know, up to now I was picking apart my buds with my fingers like a squirrel, even though I’ve been telling myself to buy a grinder for ages. Thanks to the lovely gift, that’s no longer a problem. I’ll call it feminine intuition. After all, Lady Jane runs this ship, and the Apothecary takes inspiration from the strong and diverse women of South Africa. I think it could only be a good idea to light some incense, smoke a bowl, and sit down to reread South African author Marié Heese’s novel, The Double Crown – Secret Writings of the Female Pharaoh, which tells the story of one of Africa’s most successful diplomats, generals, and rulers: Lady of Upper and Lower Egypt, Maatkare Hatshepsut.

In the meanwhile, you can check out their site, browse around, and maybe pick yourself a nice new year’s present.
